Are you a daisy?

I have always been attracted to daisies.  Don’t get me wrong, roses and violets and such are nice too, but there is something in me that does not connect to flowers that need constant attention and pampering in order to bloom and grow.

As I rebuild my ministry in this season of my life, a photo my daughter Mercy took of a single daisy kept coming to my mind.  Reflecting on a recent journal entry where I questioned, “Who am I”, I began to pray about using the daisy as a logo.

After a bit of research, I discovered that I am, in fact, a daisy.  Here’s why-

A daisy is just a beautiful weed.

Here are some great quotes from gardening websites:

“While daisies popping up among manicured garden plants may be a welcome surprise for one person, someone else will begin searching for the best method of removal.” (This one cracks me up because it’s so true in my real life, you either love me to death or you are trying to figure out how to get rid of me- it’s happened!)

“Daisies are unacceptable on the finest lawns, but in more utilitarian turf, they add a cheerful note and are beloved by children.”

“Daisies thrive in generally inhospitable conditions and are resistant to most bugs and pesticides.”

(My personal favorite) “If not controlled, some daisies can become serious weeds!”

“Daisy” comes from the old English “daes aege” meaning “day’s eye”.  The name refers to the way daisies close their petals in the evening and open again at dawn, marking the beginning of a new day.

Does that describe you?  Are you a common weed that Jesus’ love has made into a beautiful flower?  Through His strength, are you able to grow in a place where others cannot?  Without Christ, would you become a serious weed that destroys things around you?  Living in His Word, will you show others that each new day is a new start and that His mercies are new every morning?

So that’s it.  The daisy is officially my new logo.
